Islamabad: Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has stated that the Kheri Murat forest area would become a protected national park, a news source reported. Talking to media persons, he revealed that the government plans to develop seven national parks under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami initiative across the country. These would include the Kheri Murat Park.

Aslam highlighted the aim of this measure was to conserve the dwindling wildlife, ecological, and biodiversity habitats. He added that human activities and climate change were rapidly depleting these habitats.
The PM’s advisor explained that the government had announced the Green Stimulus Package in order to continue the plantation drive halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. He added that the plantation drive was underway under the SOPs and safety measures issued against COVID-19.

Kheri Murat national park – spanning over 8,740 acres – would be in Kheri Murat, Tehsil Fatehjang, Attock District. Aslam revealed that the boundaries of the forest area touched nine villages in the North and eight villages in the South. He added that in the East, these touched Kheri Murat Village and Rawalpindi, and in the west, these touched the hill near to Gali Jageer Village.
