Islamabad: Defence Minister Pervez Khattak has stated that the government plans to set up a gold refinery in Balochistan, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during an interaction with reporters in Islamabad on Thursday. He also highlighted the measures undertaken by the executive for initiating several development projects in the province.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to bring Balochistan at par with other provinces. He said that utmost efforts were being made to address the issue of power generation for tube wells; adding that several small dams were under construction, which will improve the provision of potable water in the province.
He added that the tube wells were being converted to operate on solar energy. Furthermore, he assured that the local people would receive 6% of the jobs quota in government departments.

Previously, the federal government had issued a licence to the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and the Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) for exploring oil and gas reserves in Balochistan and Sindh. As per reports, both companies have pledged to invest PKR 61.13 billion in the project during the next three years.
