Karachi: The K Electric (KE) administration on Tuesday requested the Sindh High Court (SHC) to expedite its proceedings on the unauthorised use of electrical infrastructure by cable TV and internet services providers, a news source reported.

According to details, KE had filed the said petition with SHC in October last year. KE officials stated that they had filed the petition in order to get rid of encroachments on Karachi’s power infrastructure. They added that this unauthorised use of the electrical infrastructure also posed a risk to the lives of citizens.
Sources revealed that the filed petitions brings it to court’s notice that the encroachments had created an unsafe environment – jeopardizing public safety and integrity of city’s electrical system. KE officials said that they had requested the court to expedite proceedings in light of the upcoming monsoon season.

They further informed the court that the TV Cable operators and internet service providers did not adhere to the electrical safety standards, which not only was unsafe for public but KE employees as well. They said that it was the city administration’s job to ensure that the electrical infrastructure was free of encroachments. They added that they engaged all the stakeholders concerned to resolve the matter.
