Karachi: Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has submitted a report before Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed on its operation against land grabbers and encroachments, a news source reported. The report revealed that KDA has retrieved more than 5,000 plots.
Justice Ahmed on his part ordered stern action against land mafias, saying operation against encroachments will continue and the apex court would not tolerate any hurdle. He added that parks and lakes in Karachi should be rehabilitated and preserved.
He ordered authorities concerned to identify encroached parks and lakes across the city, saying the top court wanted Karachi to be restored to its original state.
Warning authorities against wasting time, the acting chief justice ordered Pakistan Railways to remove encroachment from the track of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) on immediate basis.
The officials concerned told the court they would begin a grand operation on KCR against encroachments and will ensure its timely completion as per the court’s order.
Authorities have already finalised a plan to recover 360 acres of KCR land from encroachers, and around 5,653 illegally constructed structures will be razed during the operation.
At least 29 acres of KCR land is occupied near Wazir Mansion, two acres from Wazir Mansion to Orangi Nullah, 1.5 acres from there to Nazimabad, 2.5 acres from Nazimabad to Liaquatabad, and 3.25 acres from there to Gilani Railway Station.
