Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Wednesday (September 29) started an anti-encroachment operation against the illegal structures developed near or over the stormwater drains in Central and East districts in the city, according to news sources.

As per the details shared, encroachments from Peetal Gali, NADRA Mega Center, and Gulbahar in North Nazimabad were targeted in the central district. It was informed that the illegal structures were also removed from the service roads and footpaths.
Moreover, it was reported that the KMC team got rid of grills, stairs, walls, shutters, and concrete portions established on footpaths and service roads. While cabins and other types of encroachments were seized from outside the NADRA Mega Center.
In the Eastern district, the operation was carried out at Ameer Khusro Road. During this operation, the children’s swings and other types of encroachments were removed from the service roads.
Similarly, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) on Thursday (September 30) will carry out an anti-encroachment campaign in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Blocks-1, 2, and 3 to end the illegal occupation on the amenity plots on the orders of the Supreme Court.

KDA requested Rangers and Police to provide security for the KDA personnel and asked women constables to be present to avoid any untoward incident during the operation. According to sources, the illegal occupants have established permanent structures on the government-owned land. It was revealed that KDA has 100 amenity plots in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and so far, 20 plots have been freed.
