Karachi: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has demolished more than 300 shops constructed illegally on KDA land and drains in Korangi, according to a news report. The action was taken as part of the grand anti-encroachment operation to retrieve illegally occupied city land, currently underway in the city.
The civic agency started the anti-encroachment drive with an operation conducted on 1600 Road, and demolished several illegal structures; particularly those built on drains. The operation was supervised by KDA Director General (DG) Samiuddin Siddiqui. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the anti-encroachment operation will continue in Korangi until all encroachments have been removed.
The operation is being done on the orders of the Supreme Court to remove all encroachments within the city. Siddiqui said that the KDA has identified over 6,000 illegal land holdings on its territory across the city. He informed that last year, a large number of these structures had already been removed, and that efforts were underway to clear all KDA property.
