Karachi: Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General (DG) Asif Ali Memon has warned that the authority will revoke the allocation if residential properties are utilised for commercial purposes. DG Asif also stated that the authority will not allow non-conforming use of property within its jurisdiction.

He was addressing to media after touring Mehran Town, where an illegally constructed factory on a residential plot caught fire and killed numerous people. He announced that any industries erected on residential plots in Mehran Town would be given 15 days to restore the plots to their original condition, or the authority will be cancelling allocations and the properties and launch legal action against owners under Section 15.

The decision was made after a fire broke out at a factory that had been unlawfully built on a residential property, killing several people. The factory also lacked an emergency escape since it had not been approved by the building control authorities.
