Karachi: The repair work on stations, tracks and gates of the Karachi Circular Railways (KCR) has begun in order to make the project operational within three months, a news source reported. To this effect, the Pakistan Railways has also issued six tenders for the installation of signals and telecommunication works at nine stations.

According to details, the government intends to make the KCR section between City Station and Orangi Town operational within three months and work on the project has begun in earnest.
The six tenders issued for signals and telecommunications at nine stations are estimated to cost PKR 50 million. These stations include the ones located at Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Wazir Mansion, Lyari, Baldia Town, Shah Abdul Latif Town, and Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE).

KCR is expected to be revived in two phases and the government has allocated PKR 1.8 billion for the initiative under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) this year.
