Karachi: The government has allocated funds worth PKR 10.5 billion for the rehabilitation of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project in an arrangement similar to that previously provisioned to the Railways MainLine (ML)-1 project, a news source quoted KCR Project Director Ameer Muhammad Daudopota as saying on Tuesday (August 25).

The funds will spend on the upgrading and rehabilitation of the KCR track, in the first and the second phase of the project development. During the third phase, the KCR will be given the status of a rapid mass transit system, said Daudpota. He further mentioned that the rehabilitation the railway track from Orangi to City Station will be completed within the timeframe specified by the Supreme Court (SC).
Moreover, the project director further confirmed that the track linking the City Station to SITE has already been restored, whereas the track connecting SITE to Orangi is being restored and will be completed soon.

According to him, the KCR rehabilitation project faces no major obstacles and its revival will provide improved travelling facilities to the citizens. He further mentioned that the construction of an underpasses and flyovers on the KCR track will soon be carried out by the Government of Sindh during the second phase of the project’s development.
