Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday (July 26) mentioned that the government will pay PKR 6 billion for the construction work to operationalise the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), according to media sources.

During a KCR review meeting, the chief minister directed railway authorities to get federal government approval for the project’s PC-1. In addition, the minister has directed Pakistan Railway authorities to complete the fencing along the KCR corridor. He continued by stating that the city needed a modern KCR. CM Murad Ali Shah indicated that the government is willing to assist railway officials in enhancing KCR operation.
The meeting was informed that the 14km track from the City Station to the Orangi Station was already completed by February 10, 2021, and that two trains were operational. Moreover, the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is ready to begin construction on three buildings, including the KCR and an elevated 6.4 km structure, at a cost of PKR 11.508 billion. Sindh’s government will contribute PKR 6 billion.

Previously, in June, the Supreme Court (SC) directed the government to complete the PC-1 approval, work order release, and contract signing for the KCR project within a month. The Supreme Court’s three-judge panel directed the government to make the necessary funds available so that the project may be completed as soon as possible.
