Karachi: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday (September 27) formally performed the groundbreaking of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, news sources reported.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the premier also called on the provincial government o rethink the Bundle Island Project. PM Khan reached the coastal metropolitan city on a day-long visit to inaugurate and review the development and infrastructure development project underway. According to the planned project, the structure of KCR will be completed with over PKR 20 billion with 31 stations around the city.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has recently sanctioned the development of 22 flyovers and underpasses to prevent traffic jams on the level crossings. The project is being developed in collaboration with international investors under the Public-Private Partnership (3P) financing model. The total cost of the project will be shared between the centre and province and while the project will be completed in three-phases.
