Islamabad: Railways Chairman Secretary Habibur Rehman Gilani on Monday stated that the feasibility study of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) will be completed by mid-August, according to media reports.

The secretary was addressing the review meeting of the KCR project. The meeting was attended by Railways Minister Azam Khan Swati, the Chief Executive Officer of the Public-Private Partnership Authority, senior officials of the ministers, and secretaries of Planning and Railways while Planning and Development Minister Asad Umer presided over the meeting.
During the meeting, it was reported that the feasibility of the railways freight corridor project has been completed. Since it will be a modern urban rail-based mass transit project, the planning and development minister ordered that a separate project will be prepared for the civil structure of KCR. It will facilitate to speed up the work on the projects.
The minister directed the relevant authorities to develop PC-1 for civil structures and submit it for approval and funding through the Public Sector Development Programme. It was also observed at the meeting that work on both aspects of KCR concurrently will assure early completion, saving a considerable amount of time.

Furthermore, concerns affecting the freight corridor were discussed and reviewed. It was also decided that important project decisions must be made within a month in order to pique the interest of investors.
