Karachi: Minister of Planning Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal stated that Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project will be implemented on the same model as Lahore’s Orange Line Metro Train, according to a news story published on May 21.

A preparatory meeting of the joint working group on transport infrastructure was held recently and was chaired by Planning Development and Special Initiatives Minister Ahsan Iqbal. The meeting was attended by officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA), the China Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority, Gwadar Port Authority, and the Ministry of Planning and Railways.
As per the details, the Minister has directed the railway authorities to evaluate the cost of the 250 km/hour track for the future viability of the project. During the meeting, Planning Development and Special Initiatives Minister Ahsan Iqbal discussed the Karachi-Peshawar Railway Line (ML-1) project and expressed concerns over the delay. He asked the relevant authorities to expedite the pace of the said project.

Moreover, the KCR project will construct a 43-kilometre long world-class mass transit system using environmentally-friendly electric trains. Additionally, the project includes the development of underpasses and flyover along the KCR route and the elimination of 22-level crossings.
