Karachi: Railways Karachi Divisional Superintendent (DS) Arshad Islam Khattak has announced that the tenders for the development of the Karachi Circular Railways (KCR)’s stalls and parking facilities have been issued, and that the project will be made operational within 3 months — a news source reported today (July 16). The tenders will be opened on July 23.

According to the details available, the work on the revival of the KCR project was initiated with funds worth PKR 1.8 billion that were provided by the federal government. The DS said that within the next three months, trains will begin running between the City Railways and Orangi Town.

He further said that as per the instructions of the Supreme Court, the KCR project has been made a priority of the Karachi Railways Division. In addition, Khattak said that since both the federal and Sindh governments had come to an agreement regarding the retrieval of encroached land around the 23-kilometre KCR track, all related issues were expected to be resolved, and that no grand operation was needed for the purpose anymore.
