The report presented by the Planning Commission was approved in a joint session of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin. The project has been estimated to be completed with a cost of PKR 20.71 billion and will enhance the movement of trains without causing traffic jams. The railway ministry has instead proposed the construction of overhead bridges and underpasses along the KCR route. The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) will be authorised to evaluate projects where ECNEC has decided to approve the project with the goal of cost reduction.

If the rationalisation exercise results in a cost reduction, such projects will be approved by the CDWP, and a progress report will be submitted for the ECNEC chairman’s review. In the event of an increase in cost rationalisation or amendment, the project will be resubmitted ECNEC for evaluation and approval. The meeting was attended by the Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, Planning Commission deputy chairman, secretaries, provincial government officials, and other senior executives were present.
