KATI President Junaid Naqi underscored the need for Pakistan to increase its share in the existing trade framework, which currently falls one-third below expectations. Addressing a meeting with an Iranian trade delegation, USD Naqi noted Iran’s robust trade performance, surpassing USD 100 billion despite international sanctions, as a testament to the possibilities for further cooperation between the two nations.
The Iranian delegation was led by Jafar Allavardiha, Chairman of the Qazvin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, and Morad Nemati, Commercial Attaché of the Iranian Consulate. The meeting was also attended by KATI’s Senior Vice President Ijaz Sheikh, Standing Committee Chairman Rashid Siddiqui, former Chairman Gulzar Feroze, and other representatives from both sides.
President Naqi emphasised the longstanding historical ties between Pakistan and Iran, recalling Iran’s recognition of Pakistan immediately after its independence. He pointed to key sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, leather, and food products as areas ripe for increased trade. He announced that a KATI trade delegation would participate in the Iran Expo 2025 and encouraged Pakistani exporters and industrialists to engage actively with their Iranian counterparts.
