Islamabad: Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sahibzada Noor-ul-Haq Qadri on Monday said that Phase-II of the Kartarpur Corridor project would include the construction of hotels and markets, a news source reported. He further said that the government would commence with the development work on a timely basis in order to promote tourism.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting held to review the PC-I for the initiative. The meeting decided to form a Project Management Unit (PMU) for employing 150 persons for the project’s development.

The first phase was completed in eight to 10 months. The second phase is expected to be completed by 2022 and would see the development of 5 and 7-star hotels, markets, shopping malls, and accommodation facilities for about 10,000 visitors.

Kartarpur Corridor connects Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan, and Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur, India. Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had inaugurated Pakistan’s side of the corridor on November 9, 2018.

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had visited the project site during his visit to Pakistan last month. He lauded Pakistan’s efforts to restore religious harmony and develop the Kartarpur Corridor for the Sikh pilgrims.
