Lahore: The Kartarpur Corridor was reopened on Monday after remaining closed for three and a half months in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and the steps taken to neutralise its effects, according to news sources.

The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Punjab said that reopening was arranged to coincide with Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary to commemorate the event. The board said that the corridor was closed in March owing to the global pandemic situation but has now been opened to accommodate the Sikh community’s request.

Granthi Darbar (Kartarpur) Head Sardar Gobind Singh has said that the entire Sikh nation is pleased with the corridor reopening and added that on this occasion, the Sikh community from around the world participates in the prayer ceremony. He also urged the Indian government to allow Sikh pilgrims to visit the Kartarpur corridor – as the New Dehli has yet to open the corridor.
Previously, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, 2019.
