Karachi: The construction work on the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project has begun from Tank Chowk nearby Malir Halt to Safoora Chowrangi, news sources reported on March 16. The Sindh Traffic Police (STP) has advised motorists to take alternate routes to work.

According to the sources, the path cleaning was done between the two locations in the initial development phase before the commencement of the heavier work. The STP has encouraged motorists to avoid the route to save time. Therefore, for vehicular traffic, the following plan has been issued.
- To get to Safoora Chowrangi from Malir Cantt and the Motorway, use University Road – parallel to Malir Cantt Check Post No. 5.
- Motorists travelling from Tank Chowk to University Route can access Cantt Route and connect to University Road through the road at Mosamiat
- The Cantt Road can be used by traffic heading to Pehlwan Goth from Tank Chowk and Model Colony. It may also follow the route to Kamran Chowrangi and connect to University Road, or it can use Habib University Road to go to Johar Chowrangi.

According to Dr Adnan Qadir, Chairman of the NED Urban and Infrastructure Engineering Department, the Red Line will stretch from Tank Chowrangi to Safoora Chowrangi through Race Course Road. After that, it would travel through Karachi University Road to New MA Jinnah Road before ending at Naumaish Chowrangi.
