Karachi: The Karachi Commissioner’s Office recently issued a notification stating that the city’s Club Road would be made a one-way thoroughfare from January 18 onwards — with the initiative aimed at improving traffic management in the city, a news source reported.

Club Road connects the Metropole Hotel and the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) House. Once it becomes a one-way road, traffic authorities will allow vehicles to move from Metropole to PIDC. Meanwhile, traffic coming from the PIDC side will have to use an alternative route to reach Metropole side.
The Commissioner Office had held a meeting on this matter in July 2019, where they had also discussed the proposal to reduce the radius of the Fawara Chowk roundabout to ease traffic congestion.
The notification issued stated that drivers violating the one-way rule of Club Road will face action as per the existing traffic laws. Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Traffic Engineering Bureau Senior Director Naveed Izhar said that the decision to make the road one-way was made in a bid to manage traffic during rush hours.

Referring to the cost of making the road one-way, the director revealed that it was minimal. He added that authorities concerned would remove the cat-eyes and lane marks indicating two-way traffic before January 18. He added that the relevant direction boards would be installed soon after, for the convenience of the city’s residents.
