Karachi: Karachi Administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday (September 22) said Karachi needs the World Bank’s (WB) funding to improve infrastructure-related projects in the city, news sources reported.

He stated that the funds are needed for road infrastructure, slum redevelopment, and municipal infrastructure development in the city. He stated that the city’s infrastructure is in desperate need of repair due to the excessive rains. In a meeting with World Bank executives and business leaders, he stated that climate-related harm requires more attention since many people would continue to be affected by the disaster. In this context, the World Bank must assist the Karachi administration and the Sindh government in developing additional urban forests. He stated that the government’s main priority is to repair damaged roads, parks, storm drains, and public transportation systems.

It is worth noting that Karachi saw one of the worst monsoon spells in recent memory, causing floods in low-lying neighborhoods and the bursting of sewage pipes. The government is still working on restoring the rain-damaged structures.
