Karachi: The Sindh Cabinet has approved the draft bill for setting up the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation with the mayor as the head of the board, a news source reported on February 7.

The Cabinet meeting was held at the Sindh Chief Minister (CM) House chaired by CM Syed Murad Ali Shah. The meeting was attended by advisers, special assistants, provincial ministers, and others. During the meeting, the cabinet gave a nod to the draft of the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation Bill 2022 so it can be presented before the provincial legislature.

The news source mentioned that the draft bill was prepared to set up the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation, which will deal with the planning and execution of bulk production, supply, and distribution of potable water in the city. As per the details, the corporation will have a board, whose chairperson will be the mayor. It was mentioned that in case there is no elected mayor, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administrator will be the chairperson. Moreover, the board will develop and approve strategic plans for water delivery and the budget for Karachi’s water utility.
