Karachi: The urban centre of Karachi is expected to see a further increase in its water shortfall due to the Hub Dam reaching its dead level, according to a news source. This dam is one of the two main sources of water of the city, and reached the dead level due to an insufficient amount of rainfall in the catchment areas. Located in the western side of the city, the dam supplies 100 million gallons per day (MGD) to areas such as Baldia Town, SITE, and Orangi. With a requirement of 1,200 MGD, the city only receives between 450 to 500 MGD from other sources.
In order to improve this situation, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board spokesman Rizwan Memon stated that six pumps are being installed at the dam. He explained that these pumps would increase the water to some extent, providing some relief to the residents of the city.
