Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has collaborated with a Chinese company to replace street lights across the metropolis with LED energy savers, a news source reported. Streetlights on all 108 KMC roads will be replaced with modern technology.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar and representatives of Xian Road Construction Machinery Company (XRMC) private limited.
Senior Director Coordination Masood Alam, Senior Director Culture and Sports Rehan Khan, and officers of Mechanical and Engineering Department also attended the signing ceremony.
XRMC would also work with KMC to develop municipal road lighting standard and municipal street lights standard project. A detailed survey will be carried out in this regard.
XRMC would also design the proposal of KMC’s lighting in Karachi, then effectively promote the streetlight energy-saving reform project in Lahore and other places.
The company enjoys the comparative advantage of production capacity in China and is promoting several national-level municipal streetlight reform projects in countries such as Norway, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
