KARACHI: The implementation on Karachi Strategic Development Plan 2020 is continued partially due to involvement of approximately 20 different land owning agencies operating in Karachi under the federal and provincial governments. The Local Government Department of Sindh stated this in its document which will be shared with provincial lawmakers of Sindh Assembly during the question-hour session today (Monday).
The local government said that Karachi Strategic Development Plan 2020 had been approved by the City District Council Karachi in 2007, which aimed to set out a strategic framework and overall development direction and future pattern of the city over the year up to 2020 and beyond. The strategic plan, the first ever approved development plan, has now a legal status under Section 40 of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001.
The Local Government Department in its document has said that Karachi Strategic Development Plan 2020 will provide an umbrella framework for the development plans of the agencies and stakeholders in Karachi. The document said that since there were approximately 20 different land-owning agencies operating in Karachi under the federal and Sindh governments, therefore the plan is partially being implemented.
The cases which are being forwarded to the Master Plan Group of offices, CDGK by the Board of Revenue of Sindh Government for their opinion as per zoning under the scrutinising also part of strategic plan. Besides, with a view to decongest the inner city area, under CDGK projects, about 2250 acres of land has also been reserved in Karachi Strategic Development Plan-2020 for shifting of wholesale market etc, the same was reserved by the land utilization department of Sindh government.
