Karachi: The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi informed that the federal government will establish water treatment plants around Karachi Port, a news source reported. The treated water will be supplied to industries operating within the area.
One large and several small treatment plants will be installed by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. This move is also expected to control the dumping of industrial waste into the sea.

The minister further elaborated on the federal government’s plan to connect Karachi Port with Port Qasim. A 40-kilometre corridor will be established for the purpose. This arrangement will enhance the capacities of both ports for smoother handling of cargo ships; thereby preventing occurrences of bottle neck traffic.
Zaidi added that a large number of national and international companies have expressed their interest to invest in these projects.
At present, consultations are taking place for the expansion of Karachi port.
