Karachi: Karachi Commissioner Mohammad Iqbal Memon stated on Wednesday (September 28) that the city will receive four additional Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines over the next 12-18 months, news sources reported. The new bus system will be part of a larger infrastructure development project in Karachi aimed at making the city more adaptive.

Commissioner Memon made these remarks during a meeting with members of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). He stated that the government is working nonstop to repair potholes and make the roads safer for passengers. In this regard, work orders have been issued to complete the project as quickly as possible. He also agreed with the FPCCI’s recommendation of forming a liaison committee composed of business leaders and local officials. He stated that the business community’s involvement in the city’s improvement will increase its significance as a country’s economic centre.

It is worth noting that Karachi is one of Pakistan’s major cities and also the highest taxpayer. However, recent floods and administrative lapses have left the city infrastructure in disarray. To enhance commuting in the city, the government has recently added a wide range of bus routes. This comprises the Red and Green Line bus services, the Karachi Circular Railway project, and other smaller projects.
