Karachi: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed Karachi’s KMC Engineering Department to complete all ongoing road construction, repairs, and carpeting projects citywide within a week. The news was highlighted by a source on October 30.

As per details, highlighting Karachi’s urgent need for improved infrastructure, the mayor called for immediate action to expand manpower and deploy additional machinery to meet this goal. Furthermore, he prioritised critical routes, such as I.I. Chundrigar Road, Liaquat Road, Mai Kolachi Road, M.T. Khan Road, Old Queens Road, Mumtaz Hasan Road, and Jinnah Bridge, urging swift completion to alleviate traffic congestion and improve daily commuting for Karachi’s residents. He also mandated the conversion of streetlights to LED and permanent lighting installations around historic landmarks, ensuring enhanced public safety and energy-efficient solutions.
During a high-level KMC meeting with key municipal officials, including Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi and Director General of Engineering Azhar Ali Shah, Mayor Wahab reviewed the ongoing work on road and bridge projects. He expressed concern over the current state of many city roads, which he noted as major hindrances for Karachi’s residents. The mayor instructed that resurfacing and obstacle clearing be prioritized, particularly the route from KPT to Three Swords Clifton. Jinnah Bridge’s lane markings are to be completed within a week, with streetlight restoration on Qayyumabad Bridge also set for swift completion.

Additional directives include rapid progress on major roads such as M.A. Jinnah Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Kashmir Road, and Korangi 8000 Road. Wahab also instructed the removal of unnecessary poles along I.I. Chundrigar Road and ordered that developmental schemes in district West and district Central reach completion without delay. He emphasized the importance of opening G. Alana Road to the public by next week.
The mayor underscored the necessity of transparency and quality in all construction work, mandating that funds for infrastructure projects be utilized responsibly and efficiently. Wahab assured that road repairs, streetlight installations, and other public service enhancements would be closely monitored to maintain quality standards and ensure timely completion. These initiatives, he stated, aim to provide prompt relief to Karachi’s residents while strengthening public trust in municipal services.
