Akhtar stated that the federal government should offer the share of Karachi and Hyderabad in the NFC Award directly to the local bodies of the two cities. He added that this measure is important for resolving the basic civic and municipal problems faced by the cities’ public.
The mayor revealed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has initiated an expansive operation to clean all the major storm-water drains in the city before the monsoon season begins. But, he added, that the real solution to the problem is shifting Karachi’s waste to landfill sites on the outskirts of the city.
