Traditionally, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government remains focused on infrastructure development, which some people also deride by asserting that the government is perhaps too focused on roads and bridges. But aside from the government’s political aims, I believe the improvement of road networks always goes in the favour of the people of Pakistan.
Let’s discuss the Karachi-Lahore Motorway project. PML-N has been trying to win the hearts of the people for a long time by vowing to extend Pakistan’s Motorway from Lahore to Karachi, but bureaucratic red-tape and manipulation had been pushing the project to the back. Fairly recently, the National Highway Authority (NHA) had been facing trouble in getting a piece of land reserved for the highway, which was leased out to third parties by the Sindh Government. Apparently, the matter has now been resolved because the NHA has given the go-ahead for construction to begin on the Karachi-Lahore Motorway.
The approval for the commencement of work on the Motorway project was given yesterday (June 18, 2014) by NHA’s executive board. During the board’s meeting, NHA Chairman Mr Shahid Ashraf Tarrar gave directions to increase NHA’s revenue through toll plazas and also stated that the contracts for toll plazas would be awarded through bidding.
In my opinion, we should appreciate this move no matter whether we support the PML-N or not, because in the end, it’s about the development of our country. Once completed, the Karachi-Lahore Motorway may have a highly positive impact on economic activities, as the highway will be connecting two of central business hubs of the country.
Do you think that the approval of the Karachi-Lahore Motorway project is in favour of Pakistan? Let us know in the comments section below.
90% Chance this project will never complete because of Goverment & bureaucratic Corruption. But 10% may be it will complete. Let’s see what happen?
Dear Mr Shahbaz,
The project should complete because motorway may prove beneficial for the economic activities of Lahore and Karachi.
Let’s see what happens in future.
I feel surprise when I see people in Pak talk against development. Sure we need to do a lot for education, health in fact we really need to do massive work in these areas. But at the same time, infrastructure development is equally important in the modern economy. I sincerely wish them to complete this project as this would be beneficial for the people of whole country.
Dear Mr Muhammad Jahanzeb,
Thank you for sharing your views. I appreciate your thinking about infrastructural developments.
Work should commence on urgent basis and should be completed withinthe span of 3 years. Pls dont talk negative being a nation we should think positive and nothing is impossible only its a matter of dedication. May Allah make this project complete as in Sha Allah it will a great economic impact.
Dear Mr Bilal,
As I mentioned in the article, “in the end, it’s about the development of our country”. So, we should think about taking Pakistan to the next level of success.
And thank you so much for sharing your views with us.
