Karachi: Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani on Monday directed the officials concerned to remove encroachments from the city in light of the Supreme Court (SC)’s directives on this front, a news source reported.
To this effect, he held a meeting with officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the Sindh Building Control Authority (SCBA), the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC), and other departments concerned.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Amir Farooqi, Deputy Commissioner East Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, and Deputy Commissioner South Irshad Ali were all present at the occasion.
Officials of various departments briefed the commissioner about the proceedings regarding the removal of illegal encroachments. They stated that the apex court had sought the removal of encroachments from various areas in Karachi – including Shara-e-Quaidin, Street 21 Clifton, Royal Park Building, Hill Park, and Kidney Hill.
In response, the commissioner directed the authorities to clear encroachments from the service road running along Shara-e-Quaidin and the three islands situated adjacent to it. These areas from Sharah-e-Faisal to the Quaid’s mausoleum should be transformed into green belts, he added.
He further
stated that the boundary walls of all gymkhanas including Karachi Gymkhana, Karachi
Club, Sindh Club, and Muslim Gymkhana be removed and replaced with iron
fencing.
