Karachi: Trans-Karachi, the company developing the Karachi Redline Bus project, will plant 50,000 plants across the city under its sustainable goal project, news sources reported on May 24. The company will plant trees of the likes of Lignum Tree, Gul Mohar, Coconut Palm, Khajoor and Peepa.

According to reports, Trans-Karachi CEO Wasif Ijlal stated that the company will plant trees to alleviate the effects of concrete development and improve the city’s ecology. The proposal calls for the planting to compensate for the removal of trees along the BRT route. Likewise, the company will transfer 8,500 plants off the route to other locations. The plants will be relocated from a projected biogas production unit near Bhans colony.
It is important to mention here that, as per the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the company has cut 23,000 plants from the proposed 26 kilometres Redline route. As per their agreement with the Sindh government, the company is liable for the plantation of 118,500 plants.

With the completion of the project, almost 350,000 people will travel each day. The project has been supported by the federal and provincial governments along with international donors such as the World Bank and the French bank.
