As per the details, one side of the underpass, from Barkat Market/Garden Town to Gulberg Main Boulevard and Liberty Chowk Roundabout, will become operational by February 15. To meet this deadline, construction has been geared up as additional labour has been deployed to continue work round-the-clock. Taking notice of the traffic hurdles and congestion, the government wants to completely make the said road operational ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s cricket matches starting in Lahore on February 26.
Moreover, the project director mentioned that the caretaker Minister for Communication & Works Bilal Afzal has been assigned to monitor the progress of the project daily. An official of PCBDDA (whose name was not disclosed) mentioned that the work is underway related to piles, and excavation of the underpass – from the existing Kalma Chowk underpass entering the old Walton Airport area and terminating at the CBD project site.
