Islamabad: Following the completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase 1, the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Infrastructure Development recently announced its decision to accelerate the pace of development work on CPEC’s western route, according to news sources.
According to a statement issued by the Press Information Department (PID), Communications Minister Murad Saeed met with a Chinese delegation on Saturday and discussed the infrastructure development projects in detail. It added that the JWG signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development of Pakistan’s transport infrastructure.

The statement also revealed the in the second phase of CPEC, highways running over 1,270 kilometres would be developed. Other planned projects include the construction of roads from Gilgit to Chitral, Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan, Swat Expressway Phase-II, and Dera Ismail Khan to Zhob.

The communications minister acknowledged and appreciated the hard work, professional competence and dedication showed by the Chinese workforce for the CPEC development. He assured the delegates that his ministry would provide every possible assistance required to remove hurdles impeding the timely completion of the CPEC projects.
