Karachi: The Supreme Court-appointed Judicial Commission has instructed Karachi’s mayor to enforce a ban on throwing of garbage in over 500 drains of Karachi, according to a news report. Justice (rtd) Amir Hani Muslim, who heads the commission, passed the order.
The Commission also informed Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar that construction and maintenance of roads was his responsibility, while cleaning drains was primarily the responsibility of District Municipal Corporations (DMCs). The Commission directed the Mayor to remove encroachments from the drains.
The Commission also instructed the Sindh government to enforce the ban on manufacturing and sale of polythene bags that don’t dissolve after disposal.
