Karachi: The JS Bank has joined the list of banks that provide Roshan Digital Account (RDA) services to Non-resident Pakistanis (NRPs), news sources reported on April 17. The bank will be the first to open an RDA account over WhatsApp.

In a meeting with State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Reza Baqir, JS Bank President Basir Shamsie stated that the bank would explore new approaches to get more NRPs on the RDA panel. He said that JS Bank would use WhatsApp to open accounts in addition to the traditional procedures like mobile application and website. He claims that this will development make it easier to transfer funds and widen the scope of RDA investment.

Reza Baqir stated that NRPs are a valuable asset to Pakistan, and their remittances and investments help develop the country’s economy. He iterated that facilities offered to NRPs will translate into greater remittances to support the country. So far, 14 banks are offering RDA services, with 388,494 accounts opened from 175 countries. Since its inception in 2020, the NRPs have sent over USD 4 billion and have also invested in various products like Roshan Apna Ghar, Naya Pakistan certificates, and automotive financing.
