Islamabad: China and Pakistan on Tuesday (September 21) announced the formation of a Joint Working Group (JWG) on Information Technology (IT) under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), news sources reported.

The said decision to establish the Joint Working Group (JWG) was made during the 10th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting held recently in Islamabad. The aim of the inclusion of the IT sector in the scope of CPEC was made to expand and widen the current CPEC collaboration and make it more profitable for all parties concerned.
Initially, Pakistan has prepared 10 projects for IT inclusion in CPEC. The newly-formed JWG will work on the projects related to IT transactions, ecommerce, IT infrastructure, technical collaborations & training, data centre, incubation centre and IT services. Following the approval of these projects, both sides will formally execute the projects.

The meeting which took place virtually in Islamabad was presided over by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, while the Chinese side was represented by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Deputy Head Ning Jizhe.
