Islamabad: Chinese scholar and senior fellow at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Study-Renmin University of China Zhou Rong recently stated that public-private partnerships (PPPs) and joint ventures were crucial for the industrial development planned under Phase II of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, a news source reported on September 3. He added that there was also a need for increased academia-industrial collaboration for the purpose.

He also lauded a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC), the Punjab University (PU) and the Institute of Quality and Technology Management (IQTM) to promote industrial development in the special economic zones (SEZs) being developed in the country.

He stated the CPEC was a flagship project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and that Chinese entrepreneurs, engineers and technicians would actively participate in the establishment of working ties between Pakistan’s and China’s entrepreneurial and education sectors.
