Karachi: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to facilitate its probe into illegal housing schemes in Sindh – a news source reported.
The agency has established the JIT on the Supreme Court’s orders. The apex court earlier this month allowed FIA to investigate illegal housing schemes in the province.

According to a forensic report, more than 6,000 housing projects are operating without legal sanction nationwide. The developers of these societies have reportedly cheated the public at large.
More than 940 cooperative and private housing schemes are operating in Sindh at present. The FIA-constituted JIT has recommended lodging criminal cases against the schemes’ developers.

Salaam Sheikh, additional director of FIA’s Corporate Crime Circle, heads the JIT. Other members include officials of the anti-corruption, corporate crime, State Bank, and commercial banking circles. Each sphere comprises two assistant directors, four inspectors, and two sub-inspectors.
The JIT has been granted special powers to investigate public servants and other important personalities. These individuals have reportedly facilitated the developers of the schemes in question.
