Islamabad: The authorities concerned have constituted a 20-member Jirga to settle the longstanding dispute concerning the location of the multi-billion dollar Diamer-Bhasha Dam project, a news source reported on December 27.

According to the details revealed, the officials concerned recently arranged a meeting between elders of Harban tribe of Kohistan and the Thor tribe of Diamer at the Diamer Commissioner’s Office. It was at this meeting that a Jirga was constituted to amicably settle the dispute.
The Jirga will comprise representatives from the two tribes as well as KP and GB government officials. Meanwhile, officials of the district administration of Diamer and Kohistan and the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) will facilitate the talks.

It will recommend territorial limits for KP and GB’s border land, the site of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, in accordance with documents and evidence. It is pertinent to mention that both the tribes claim ownership of over eight kilometres of land situated in Gandlo Nala area – identified for the installation of the dam’s power plant.
