Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah engaged in discussions with the Ambassador of Japan Wada Mitsuhiro regarding the ongoing development projects supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), according to a news article on March 1.

As disclosed in the details, the projects are worth PKR 8500.5 million. The meeting, attended by Japan Consul General Tahara and First Secretary Fukuda, saw the presence of key officials including Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, P&D Chairman Najam Shah, and Secretary Investment Mureed Rahmoo.
Highlighting the progress, CM Shah noted that the JICA-funded project aimed at upgrading Girls Schools into Elementary Schools in rural areas, with an allocated budget of PKR 2,287.24 million, was in its advanced stages. He mentioned the finalisation of contractor prequalification and bids for construction and completion works.
The initial phase involves the construction of 11 elementary schools, primarily in Khairpur district and Naushero Feroze. Subsequent phases will cover Sukkur, Larkana, and Malir Karachi, focusing on civil works and furniture procurement.
Further discussion revolved around the Flood Response program, aiming at reconstructing education facilities in nine districts, backed by JICA assistance totalling PKR 1.566 billion, with a share from the Sindh Government. This includes reconstruction of primary school buildings damaged by floods and heavy rains, along with solarisation and furniture replacement.

Updates were provided on the Maternal and Child Health Care Centre project at Liaquat University Hospital, Jamshoro, valued at PKR 4963.331 million, with a contribution from the Sindh government. The objective is to bolster medical services, including neonatal and children’s hospital facilities.
