Islamabad: A Japan-based international welfare organization on Monday offered PKR 1.078 million worth of emergency support funds, sanitation kits, and food packages (encompassing rations for one-month) to 165 virus-affected families residing in the rural areas of the Haripur district, according to news sources.

As per an official press release issued by the Japanese embassy, this goodwill gesture by the people of Japan is part of the relief assistance provided under the Kokkyo naki Kodomatchi (Children without Borders) or the KnK emergency support initiative.
The press release notified that aside from the provision of financial support to the underprivileged families residing in the district, the KnK had also launched an awareness campaign for rural areas to educate them about hygiene and the threat of COVID-19. The welfare initiative will also teach school children in the area on how they can adopt better sanitation practices to avoid the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, the KnK has offered — through a local non-government organization — the necessary medical tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) to three hospitals treating coronavirus patients.
Japanese ambassador Matsuda Kuninori revealed that this support by KnK was financed by the personal donations of Japanese people for those in need in Pakistan.
