He discussed this while giving a presentation on the ‘Pakistan-Japan relationship’ on Wednesday, at an event organised by the English-Speaking Union of Pakistan.

The Ambassador said that Japanese companies could finance or set up tourism-related hotels and transportation services. He added that given Pakistan’s size, the country required a better road network, railway network, public transport system and logistics, which Japan could help with. He also wanted to increase the number of flights per week from Japan to Islamabad and vice versa.
Matsuda offered technical assistance and necessary funding to help resolve Pakistan’s water crisis. Japan International Cooperation Agency could set up projects to solve issues such as water-waste management, floodwater management and desalination. The country is planning on sending a consultation mission to the major cities of Pakistan to assist the government.
Japan has started importing mangoes from Pakistan, and intends to set up juice factories here so that fresh juices can be imported as well. These factories will be able to export their product to countries around the globe, and not just Japan. The same can be planned for sesame seeds and other agri-produce from Pakistan, the Ambassador added.

Other opportunities for Japan are present in the fishing industry, energy sector, pharmaceuticals, textile sector, mining, and automobile market.
Japan is planning on changing its labour and immigration laws, and workers from Pakistan will be given preference, according to the Ambassador. This would open up a range of opportunities for Pakistani citizens to find new avenues to earn their living.
