Islamabad: Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Matsuda Kuninori on Tuesday revealed that various Japanese firms had expressed their willingness to invest in Pakistan Railways (PR), a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid in Islamabad. Ambassador Kuninori said that the Japanese companies could provide safety assistance and technical support.

In response, Rashid said Japan’s rail system is considered one of the best around the world and that partnership with Japanese companies would improve the services of PR and modernise its system. He told the ambassador about various railways projects and the steps taken to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Rashid said that the government recently resumed passenger trains operations to facilitate people in returning to their home towns for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. The minister said that passengers have been urged to comply with anti-COVID standard operating procedures (SOPs) during travel.
