Islamabad: The Japanese government recently announced its decision to provide a grant of USD 1,620,000 through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and USD 540,000 through the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to the government of Pakistan in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, according to news sources. As per the publication, it was further revealed that Chinese firms and individuals had also donated a sizable quantity of relief supplies for this purpose.

This support will boost Pakistan’s capacity to identify people affected by the virus within Pakistan and help in their treatment. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for their contribution of USD 2 million towards the fight against coronavirus. He announced (on his twitter account) that Japan had allocated PKR 2.5 billion from their current unutilised grant funds in Pakistan to be used for health projects.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Ambassador to China Naghmana Alamgir Hashmi has announced that Chinese firms, welfare foundations and philanthropists have provided 35 tonnes (to date) of emergency relief supplies (including ventilators) to assist Pakistan in combating the coronavirus spread.
