Islamabad: The Japanese government will offer Pakistan a grant-in-aid to improve the water and sewerage system and conserve historic sites, news sources reported on February 09. The funds will be used for the sewerage system development in Multan and support conservation efforts involving Taxila Museum.

In a meeting with the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Omar Ayoub, the Japanese ambassador to Pakistan, said that the Japanese government values Pakistan’s long-term partnership and bilateral trade and development. The envoy also told the minister about the JICA’s (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Haripur City Gravity Flow Water Supply Scheme. According to the ambassador, the project would enhance the city’s water security. This year marks the 70th anniversary of Pakistan and Japan’s established diplomatic relations and friendship. According to the ambassador, Japan is Pakistan’s second-largest donor, with JPY 1.35 trillion in development loans and grants since 1954.
