Multan: The Japanese government will provide USD 9 million for the upgradation of the mechanical equipment for the sewerage and drainage system of Multan, news sources reported on August 4. The system will help prevent urban flooding by enhancing the capacity of the city’s sewerage system.

In this regard, an agreement was signed between Japanese Ambassador Wada Mitsuhiro and Economic Affairs Division Secretary Mian Asad Hayaud Din. Under the agreement, Japan would provide technical support and funds for the purchase of equipment and staff training.
Moreover, the project will address Multan’s urban flooding issues by modernising sewage equipment and drainage pumps to efficiently maintain the sewer pipes and channels. This will help enhance sewerage systems and improve the region’s long-term sanitation needs.

It should also be highlighted that Japan is one of Pakistan’s largest international donors. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is one of the primary organisations that has initiated several public welfare programmes under mutual aid agreements.
