Karachi: The Consul General of Japan in Karachi, Toshikazu Isomura, has expressed his government’s intent to operate the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and Karachi tram services, a news source reported on October 19. He stated that these projects would introduce significant improvements in the transport infrastructure of the city.

Speaking further on the matter of KCR, the Japanese Consul General stated that light train for KCR will ‘be extremely beneficial for KCR since its carriages are smaller and take less space’. He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shalwani at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Head Office.

On the occasion, Shalwani stated that the local administration will name a landmark in the city after Japanese monarch. He also requested the Japanese government to provide services of its experts so a section in the local parks could be designated Japanese corner where the locals would be able to view Japanese plant species.
