Islamabad: Federal Minister for Aviation and Privatisation Muhammad Mian Soomro on Thursday said that the federal government has initiated reforms aimed at facilitating foreign investors.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo in Islamabad. The two discussed matters pertaining to business ventures, exchange of delegations, and trade information.

The minister said that Italy could benefit from Pakistan’s mineral, textile and auto-manufacturing sectors. He added that attractive investment opportunities in the country’s marble sector were available as well. The minister further informed that Thar is one such region where marbles are available in abundance.
Moreover, he highlighted various methods introduced by the federal government in a bid to promote economic activities. These include devising a one-window operation facility for both local and foreign investors.

In response, the Italian envoy acknowledged the steps introduced by the federal government for the promotion of business activities. He also shared plans with respect to establishing three ‘centres of excellence’ in Pakistan, which would specialise in the leather and mining industries.
