The strategy advocates for a centralised data management system that houses all organisations’ data in one location.

According to reports, the government planning commission passed the National Cloud-First Policy in the second week of February. As per the said strategy, all federal and provincial government agencies and ministries would store their data in a common cloud storage facility instead of setting up their own separate data centres. After the policy is implemented, no department or ministry will receive funding for the administration and establishment of independent data storage facilities. However, in exceptional cases, departments will be given a budget after receiving approval from the minister.

According to a statement issued by the IT ministry, the establishment of a cloud computing and data centre would assist speed data access while also saving funds required for independent data storage management. The service providers will supply the facility of data storage and administration in the cloud policy.
